Job summary

Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago, IL is seeking a part-time Phlebotomy Technician to perform venipuncture, capillary draws, POC testing and ECG exams, while ensuring accuracy and compliance in the lab workflow. Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification from an accredited medical phlebotomy program, medical assistant program or equivalent.
• A minimum of one year of experience performing phlebotomy in a hospital setting; ECG experience preferred.
• Experience in pathology, laboratory support or health-related positions.
• Familiarity with medical terminology, billing and coding preferred.
• Ability to use a computer for data entry and analysis.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary draws, blood cultures, heel or finger sticks, POC testing and ECG exams.
• Submit specimens and ensure data integrity in the electronic medical record system.
• Escalate issues when results do not cross into the medical record.
• Provide patient care and assist physicians with test results retrieval from databases.
• Stock and monitor laboratory supplies and notify management of shortages.
• Follow safety protocols for handling hazardous materials and dispose of waste properly.
