Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago, IL is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to perform venipuncture, capillary draws, ECG exams and related lab tasks, while providing courteous patient care and maintaining accurate records.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, a certified phlebotomy program or medical assistant certificate, and at least one year of hospital phlebotomy experience; familiarity with Cerner and Epic is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification from an accredited phlebotomy program or medical assistant program.
• Minimum of one year of phlebotomy and ECG experience in a hospital setting.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and billing/coding preferred.
• Ability to use a computer for data entry and analysis.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture, capillary draws, blood cultures, ECG exams and special techniques for difficult patients.
• Process specimens in the EMR and ensure compliant billing.
• Escalate issues to leadership when results do not cross into the medical record.
• Provide customer service to physicians by retrieving test results from databases.
• Dispose of potentially hazardous material according to protocol.
• Stock and monitor inventory of laboratory supplies and notify management of shortages.
• Perform ECG exams per physician orders for transmittal to Cardiology.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
