Job summary

Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago, IL is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to perform venipuncture, capillary draws, ECG testing, and related duties in a hospital setting. The role supports accurate specimen collection, proper labeling, and timely processing within the EMR environment.

The successful candidate will have a phlebotomy certification and at least 1 year of experience, with strong communication and teamwork skills to interact with physicians, nurses, and staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification from an accredited medical phlebotomy program, medical assistant program or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary draws, blood cultures, heel or finger sticks, POC testing, ECG exams and special techniques for difficult patients.
• Escalate issues when results do not transfer to the medical record.
• Provide test results to physicians from Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and NMH databases.
• Dispose of hazardous material according to protocol.
• Stock and monitor inventory of lab supplies and notify shortages.
