Job summary

Actalent in Herndon, VA is seeking a phlebotomist to perform blood draws and specimen collection, support lab workflow, troubleshoot issues, and ensure accurate documentation and safety compliance.

You will train others, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to process improvements while delivering courteous patient service and coordinating with clinicians. This contract-to-hire role requires strong phlebotomy skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years phlebotomy experience.
• Venipuncture with straight and butterfly needles.
• Pediatric blood draws across all ages."
• Specimen labeling, centrifuging, splitting and freezing.
• Verify orders against scripts or lab labels.
• Understand OSHA/DEP safety requirements.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Explain procedures clearly to patients.
• Maintain accurate patient data and logs.
• State-required phlebotomy certification when applicable.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws using venipuncture techniques for all ages.
• Collect and store blood and other specimens per procedures.
• Explain venipuncture clearly to ensure patient comfort.
• Match requisitions to tubes for accurate test ordering.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
• Verify test orders against physician scripts or labels.
• Package specimens for transport maintaining integrity.
• Update patient information in the system accurately.
• Assist with troubleshooting specimen collection and workflow.
