Job summary

Penn State Health Hershey Medical Center is seeking a full-time Phlebotomist to collect blood specimens from inpatients and outpatients, receive other laboratory specimens, and manage patient data in various information systems. The role includes performing bedside glucose testing and potential pediatric collection tasks.

  • Six (6) months phlebotomy experience required or completion of an internship through a certified training program required.
  • Phlebotomy Certification, CPR and additional language skills (e.g. Spanish) preferred.

  • Enter, verify, and update patient demographic and insurance information in information systems.
  • Perform and report bedside glucose testing.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Responsible for collecting blood specimens (phlebotomy) from inpatients and outpatients and receiving other laboratory specimens, i.e., 24 hour urine containers, sputum, stool specimens and splitting of random urine specimens. Enters, verifies, and updates patient demographic and insurance information into various information systems. Responsible for performing and reporting bedside glucose testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Six (6) months phlebotomy experience required or completion of an internship through a certified training program required.
  • Pass a written test with at least 80%.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
  • Bedside glucose and pediatric collection experience preferred.
  • Phlebotomy Certification, general computer skills, CPR and additional language skills (i.e. Spanish) preferred.
