Job Description
- The Phlebotomist Patient Services Representative (PSR II) represents the face of our company to patients who come in, either as part of their health routine or for insights into life-defining health decisions.
- The PSR II draws quality blood samples from patients and prepares those specimens for lab testing, following established practices and procedures.
- Creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence by explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe, and accurate manner.
- Demonstrates leadership behaviors with a focus on process excellence, confidentiality, and accuracy of patient information.
- May be assigned to a doctor's office, patient service center, or other locations as needed.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform daily activities accurately and on time under the supervision of the area supervisor.
- Maintain a safe and professional environment.
- Perform forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing following established practices.
- Verify patient demographic information and initials, ensuring proper labeling and patient verification.
- Maintain required records and documentation.
- Promote a positive image and demonstrate organizational commitment to patients and staff.
Job Requirements
- Ability to produce quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent phlebotomy skills, including pediatric and geriatric collections.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as needed.
- Adherence to all policies and procedures, including dress code and safety protocols.
- Good judgment and decision-making skills based on established procedures.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and a clean driving record if applicable.
- Willingness to travel and work at multiple locations with short notice.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a high-volume setting.
- Superior customer focus and effective communication skills.
- Training locations may vary based on trainer availability.
Required Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Medical training such as medical assistant or paramedic preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred, required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
Work Experience
- Minimum three years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Preferred two years in a Patient Service Center environment.
- Experience in customer service in retail or service environments is preferred.
- Keyboard/data entry experience.
