Job summary

Software Placement Group in Rockville, MD is seeking a contract Phlebotomist for an initial 3-month engagement with potential to become permanent. The role requires strong venipuncture skills, certification, and office software proficiency, with duties spanning specimen collection, labeling, and transport.

Candidates should have a valid phlebotomy credential, at least 5 years of venipuncture experience in fast-paced labs, and a HS diploma or GED.

Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
• Minimum of 5 work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
• Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport
• Store specimens at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate containers/tubes, label accurately, and follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
