Job summary

Jefferson Health is seeking a Phlebotomist to collect blood specimens via venipuncture, fingerstick or heelstick while ensuring patient safety and proper identification. You will follow policies, coordinate with nursing and physician offices, and maintain accurate collection records in a hospital setting.

The role emphasizes compliance with biohazard precautions, proper timing and fasting requirements, and collaboration with laboratory staff to ensure specimens are not missed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3 years’ phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy via venipuncture, fingerstick or heelstick as required.
• Maintains accurate patient identification during specimen collection.
• Communicates collection requirements and fasting info to nursing or physician offices.
• Advices in-house staff if patient refuses blood draws and coordinates with nursing.
• Reviews requisitions for missing information and follows up as needed.
• Cleans, stocks, and maintains the lab work area and supplies.
