Job summary

Jefferson Health Northeast is seeking a Phlebotomist to obtain blood specimens via venipuncture, fingerstick or heelstick in a busy hospital setting at 4900 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia. You will ensure accurate test collection and adhere to phlebotomy policies, patient IDs, and safety protocols.

Minimum education includes a High School Diploma or equivalent with 1-3 years’ experience preferred; phlebotomy training with hours of clinical rotation and certification are valued.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• 1-3 years’ prior phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Phlebotomy training may be required (100 hours rotation in inpatient hospital setting/physician office; usually 150 sticks).
• Phlebotomy certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy and ensures accurate collection of tests from patients via venipuncture, fingerstick or heelstick.
• Maintains positive patient identification during specimen collection.
• Communicates discrepancies in patient identification, fasting requirements or other collection-related factors to nursing or physician offices.
• Notifies Nursing when in-house patients refuse blood draws.
• Uses hospital resources to resolve language barriers as needed.
• Reviews requisitions for missing information and follows up with facility or provider if needed.
• Checks collection, sorting and storage areas to prevent missed specimens; transports to laboratory as needed.
• Monitors Collection List and Unreceived Specimen Report; completes Collection List with time and phlebotomist code.
• Cleans and stocks work area; assists with supplies maintenance; follows safety and lab dress code policies.
• Performs other lab-related duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.
