Job summary

Jackson Hospital is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform venipuncture and related lab tasks under the supervision of the Laboratory. You will collect, document and report patient data related to phlebotomy and communicate with the patient’s RN to address needs.

Responsibilities include maintaining proper labeling, transporting specimens, and keeping an organized work area while supporting nursing and lab staff. Experience and certification are preferred, with emphasis on safety and accuracy.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.
• National Certification as a Phlebotomist preferred but not required.
• 1-2 years phlebotomy experience in related work environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine blood collection using venipuncture and appropriate equipment.
• Collect, report and document patient data related to phlebotomy in a timely, accurate manner.
• Maintain patient identification, labeling procedures and specimen transport per policies.
• Assist with inventory management and restocking of phlebotomy supplies.
• Provide timely shift change communications and document problems or critical issues as they occur.
• Demonstrate ongoing competency and participate in mandatory education and performance evaluations.
• Provide careful attention to patients in high fall risk and isolation categories.
