MercyOne Des Moines is seeking a Lab Assistant to support multiple laboratory departments. This PRN, part-time role involves specimen collection, processing, and reporting to support patient diagnosis and treatment in a high-volume hospital setting.

Responsibilities include venipunctures, specimen handling, LIS entries, and collaboration with staff to ensure data integrity and quality. MercyOne offers growth opportunities within Trinity Health’s network and a values-driven culture.

Competenze

• Laboratory experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.

Mansioni

• Performs venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks appropriate to patient age and ensures proper specimen collection.
• Accepts specimens and requisitions and manages add-ons and pending lists according to procedures.
• Identifies patients and specimens using two identifiers and labels containers for correct identification.
• Registers and logs specimens in the LIS, evaluates adequacy, and scans documentation into the patient record.
• Performs specimen processing and documentation in accordance with laboratory protocols.
• Resolves problematic specimens and test orders in collaboration with staff and clients.
• Follows safety and infection control procedures and supports efficient workflow and timely turnaround.
• Operates LIS and other lab systems to support data entry and workflow management.
• Contributes to general lab operations by restocking supplies and participating in department activities.
