MercyOne Des Moines is seeking a part-time Lab Assistant to support the laboratory departments by collecting, processing, analyzing, and reporting laboratory tests essential for patient diagnosis and treatment.

The role requires skills in venipuncture, specimen handling, labeling, and accurate documentation within the Laboratory Information System (LIS). You will help maintain data integrity, safety, and timely turnaround while collaborating with a multidisciplinary hospital team.

Mansioni

• Performs venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks per patient age and policies.
• Accepts specimens and manages add-on orders and pending lists.
• Identifies patients and specimens with two identifiers and labels containers correctly.
• Registers and logs specimens in LIS and ensures documentation is complete.
• Performs specimen processing and documentation per protocols.
• Assists in resolving problematic specimens and test orders with staff and clients.
• Follows safety and infection control procedures to ensure timely turnaround.
• Operates LIS to support data entry and workflow management.
• Contributes to general lab operations like restocking and peer teaching.
