Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to collect and process blood specimens for laboratory testing in a hospital setting. The role operates with moderate supervision and includes training new staff and students as assigned.

Responsibilities include obtaining quality samples from all ages, accurate labeling and handling, HIPAA compliance, and supporting clinical care teams. Prior phlebotomy experience (1–2 years) and National Certification preferred are required.

• Excellent written and oral communication; ability to prioritize and adapt to workload changes.
• Strong customer service skills with respect for patient privacy and autonomy.
• Demonstrates problem-solving abilities and can manage complex patient collections.

Responsibilities

• Obtains quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups.
• Ensures accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, processing, handling, and transportation of specimens.
• May assist in patient recovery from adverse reactions and provide rapid response to medical emergencies in inpatient settings.
• Communicates effectively with patients and care teams to address concerns and ensure satisfaction.
• Troubleshoots and resolves specimen, order, and operational issues within the work area.
• Provides training and education to new staff and students as assigned.
• Follows HIPAA regulations and handles sharps and biohazardous materials safely.
• Performs other tests, administration, and specimen collection as assigned.
