Job description

Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

1. Position Responsibilities:
   • Experience with blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.
   • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
   • Explain the venipuncture or other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously.
   • Demonstrate techniques using straight or butterfly needles.
   • Understand all physicians' orders fully.
   • Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes.
   • Label, centrifuge, split, freeze specimens as required.
   • Verify test requisitions or computer labels for accuracy.
   • Package specimens for transport.
   • Store sample specimens at required temperatures.
