Job description

Summary

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities
  • Experience in blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.
  • Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explains the venipuncture and other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously.
  • Demonstrates techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Understands all physicians' orders and matches requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required.
  • Ensures test requisitions or computer labels match scripts for 100% accuracy.
  • Packages specimens for transport, stores samples at correct temperatures, and labels accurately.
  • Follows protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
  • Complies with OSHA and DEP regulations and attends annual training.
  • Answers calls and communicates laboratory results effectively.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by the state of employment.
  • At least 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
Vaccine Requirements

Required vaccines include HM confirmed, TB, T-Dap, and MMR.
