Job description

Summary: Responsible for collecting blood and other specimens from all patient populations using prescribed procedures with accuracy, skill, professionalism, and excellent customer service. Duties may include on and off-site phlebotomy, specimen transport, and delivery. Additional responsibilities include patient registration, lab order management, processing specimens for testing, handling blood study kits, lab order entry, and acting as a first responder to emergency codes.

Education, License & Certification:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Computer skills and navigation proficiency required.
• Completion of a phlebotomy training program or equivalent experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic anatomy preferred.
• A valid driver’s license required at some locations.

Essential Functions: As a phlebotomist, you will obtain quality blood samples using various methods (venous and capillary) with standard safety equipment, from all age groups, adhering to regulatory and procedural standards. You may need to respond rapidly to medical emergencies. Additional duties include:

• Proper patient identification, specimen labeling, handling, and transportation.
• Working with computer systems.
• Providing excellent customer service and communication.
• Answering phones and interacting with patients and healthcare professionals.
• Maintaining professionalism and a positive demeanor.
• Working independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrating organization, attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
