Job summary

MDS Staffing is seeking a Phlebotomist for a contract position in Washington DC. The role involves hard work with a focus on venipuncture and specimen handling, including labeling, centrifugation, and proper storage. 3 months with potential for permanent placement.

Responsibilities include performing blood draws, explaining procedures to patients, and ensuring accuracy and compliance with orders. Experience in a fast-paced lab is required, with certification as applicable by state.

Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by state
• Minimum 5 years of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital
• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 1 year of experience

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge, record maintenance data, decontamination and updating patient information
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously
• Demonstrate technique with straight or butterfly needles
• Understand all physician orders
• Match requisition forms to specimens; label, centrifuge, split and freeze as required
• Check test requisitions or labels against scripts for accuracy
• Package specimens for transport
• Store specimens at required temperatures and ensure transport integrity; follow OSHA/DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
