Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred.
• CPR certification preferred (if available).

Responsibilities

• Obtain blood specimens and collect nonblood specimens (urine, sputum, throat swabs) for lab testing.
• Perform screening tests and report results.
• Process specimens for testing and dispatch to reference laboratories as needed.
• Resolve ambiguous/unusual test orders by contacting physicians, pathologists, nursing staff or reference labs; refer unresolved orders back to the originator.
• Maintain compliance with lab/hospital policies and safety practices.
• Keep work area clean and restocked; participate in regular staff meetings and trainings.
