Responsibilities

• Obtain blood specimens and collect nonblood specimens such as urine, sputum, and throat swabs for laboratory testing.
• Perform screening tests and report results.
• Process specimens to prepare them for laboratory testing.
• Prepare specimens for reference laboratory dispatch and testing.
• Resolve ambiguous and/or unusual test orders by contacting the physician, pathologist, nursing station, or reference laboratory.
• Maintain a neat, clean work area and restock daily supplies.
• Attend regular department staff meetings and in-service training.
