Job summary

The Cancer & Hematology Centers in East Lansing, MI are seeking a Phlebotomist to perform venipunctures and finger sticks for laboratory analysis and to serve as the primary lab representative with the public.

Responsibilities include accurately identifying patients, labeling specimens, determining proper collection tubes, entering data in the laboratory information system, and coordinating with physicians and nurses.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Medical Assistant degree preferred.
• Two years related work experience.
• Medical terminology knowledge is extremely helpful.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipunctures and finger sticks per written policies and procedures.
• Identify patients accurately and label/handle specimens correctly.
• Determine and draw the proper collection tubes for tests requested.
• Monitor phlebotomy supplies and notify manager when replenishing needed.
• Enter new patients into the laboratory information system and properly order tests; designate sendout tests.
• Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to safety policies and keeping area clean.
• Assist other lab staff with tasks such as answering the phone, balancing lab billing, and coordinating patient care.
• All other duties as assigned.
