Job summary

WakeMed Health & Hospitals is seeking a Clinical Services Technician to collect and process specimens across age groups with minimal patient impact. You will verify patient and specimen identification, organize workflow, prioritize distribution, and use equipment and computer systems to manage test requests and labeling.

In addition to routine maintenance and quality control, you will train new staff and serve as a resource for coworkers.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent Required.
• 1 Year Related Position Experience Preferred.
• Performs routine maintenance and quality control on specified equipment.

Responsibilities

• Collect specimens from all age groups as assigned with minimal patient impact.

Overview

The Clinical Services Technician collects specimens on all age populations as assigned with minimal patient impact. Responsible for the processing and allocation of laboratory specimens and orders from all sources. Responsible for verification of proper patient and specimen identification,appropriateness of specimen and accompanying orders. Organizes laboratory work flow and appropriately prioritizes processing and distribution of specimens. Utilizes requisite equipment, instruments, and computer systems to test request, accession, correctly label and deliver specimens to appropriate laboratory sections within acceptable time frames. Performs specified procedures within scope of established testing methods and responsibilities. Performs and appropriately documents routine maintenance and quality control procedures on specified equipment and troubleshoots as needed. Trains new employees in the theoretical and operational aspects of this position and serves as a resource for less experienced co-workers. Performs other duties as assigned.
