6 Degrees Search in Austin, TX is seeking a Phlebotomist for a 3-month contract with potential for permanent placement. The role involves performing blood draws, labeling and processing specimens while floating among Austin-area locations. Mileage expenses are paid, and a clean driving record is required.

Schedule typically Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm, with possible extra daytime hours. The position emphasizes accurate specimen handling, patient communication, and adherence to safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required.
• Minimum of 6 months' venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 1 year of experience.

Responsibilities

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain clearly the venipuncture process and specimen collection to patients using straight or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all physician orders and match requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% accuracy; package specimens for transport.
• Store specimen samples according to required temperatures and transport guidelines; comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
