Job description

Location: Catonsville, MD | Schedule: Contract, full-time, on-site (M-T 7:30-4:30, F 7:30-2PM, S 8-12)

Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to support laboratory operations at its Catonsville, MD location. This is a contract role with potential for permanent placement, ideal for someone experienced in specimen collection who can help maintain smooth, accurate lab workflow.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge samples as required
• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures
• Update patient information accurately
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection procedures (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, label accurately, and follow protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries

Required qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
• Minimum of 5 work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Minimum 1 year of experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office SuiteHigh School Diploma or GED
