Job description

Location: Rockville, MD and Gaithersburg MD (working at both locations) | Schedule: Contract, full-time, on-site, M-F 7am to 5pm (may vary depending on location worked)

Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a Phlebotomist to support laboratory operations across two Maryland locations. This is a contract role with a projected duration of 3 months and potential for permanent placement, offering the opportunity to apply specimen collection expertise in a fast-paced clinical environment.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Explain the venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) clearly and courteously to patients
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries

Required qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed, as required in some states
• Minimum of 5 work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
• minimum 2 years of experience
