Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities.
• Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain venipuncture and specimen collection methods clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Follow physicians' orders and match requisition forms to specimens.
• Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures.
• Ensure accuracy of test requisitions and computer labels.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual trainings.
• Answer calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Overview

A healthcare services organization is seeking a Phlebotomist to join its laboratory team on a contract basis for a projected duration of 3 months, with potential for permanent placement. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection and processing in support of patient care and diagnostic testing.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities
• Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine or fecal) as required
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
