Location: Kannapolis, NC | Schedule: Contract, full-time, on-site; Monday - Thursday 8am - 5pm, Friday 8am - 12:30pm | Compensation: Not specified

Overview

A clinical laboratory services provider is seeking a Phlebotomist to support specimen collection operations in a fast-paced hospital or outpatient lab setting. This is a contract position with potential for permanent placement, projected to last approximately 3 months, and plays a key role in ensuring accurate and timely specimen collection for patient care.

What you'll do
  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
  • Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
  • Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
  • Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
  • Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures, following protocol to maintain specimen integrity
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Attend annual department trainings
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
  • May be asked to float to other accounts; mileage expense paid
Required qualifications
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
  • Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
  • Minimum 1 year of experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Clinical lab experience working in IOP or hospital setting
  • Reliable transportation and a clean driving record
