Location: Merrillville, IN (with travel to multiple sites in Northwest Indiana) | Schedule: Full-time, on-site, 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday through Friday | Compensation: Not specified

Overview

A healthcare services organization is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join its laboratory operations on a contract basis for a projected duration of 3 months, with strong potential to convert to a permanent position. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection and handling across multiple site locations in Northwest Indiana, supporting quality patient care and lab efficiency.

What you'll do
  • Perform blood draws and other specimen collections, including venipuncture using straight and/or butterfly needles
  • Explain collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for 100% accuracy
  • Package and store specimens according to required temperature and protocol to maintain sample integrity during transport
  • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures
  • Update patient information and assist with workflow recommendations
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Attend annual department trainings
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
  • Travel to multiple assigned sites within the Northwest Indiana territory
Required qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Clean driving record and reliable transportation
