Job summary

SPG is seeking a Phlebotomist for a contract, on-site role in Franklin, WI. The position runs in 2nd shift (1pm - 9:30pm) with a Monday–Friday schedule and rotating weekends. The assignment is initially for 3 months with potential conversion to permanent status.

You will perform blood draws, handle specimens, and ensure accurate labeling and processing to support patient care and diagnostic testing in a hospital-like setting.

Qualifications

  • Valid phlebotomy certification where required by state of employment.
  • Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Minimum 1 year of overall work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge samples as required.
  • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures.
  • Update patient information accurately.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes to patients clearly.
  • Demonstrate technique using straight or butterfly needles.
  • Follow physicians' orders accurately and match requisitions to tubes.
  • Package specimens for transport and store at required temperatures.

Overview

A healthcare services organization is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to support its laboratory operations on a contract basis with a projected duration of 3 months and potential to convert to a permanent position. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection, handling, and processing to support patient care and diagnostic testing.

What you'll do
  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge samples as required
  • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures
  • Update patient information accurately
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
  • Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
  • Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
  • Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
  • Package specimens for transport
  • Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place in appropriate collection containers/tubes, label accurately, and follow protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Attend annual department trainings
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to respond to inquiries
Required qualifications
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
  • Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
  • Minimum 1 year of experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • High School Diploma or GED
