Phlebotomist III

Location- USA - IN - Terre Haute - 512 Wabash Avenue

Duration- 3+ months (Possibility of conversion based on business needs)

Shift- 8a-8p total working hours will be 8 (Contingent Worker can be converted to Full Time Employee based on Performance)

The main function of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities

• Experience performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection, such as urine or fecal, as required.
• Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understands physicians' orders.
• Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order.
• Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Packages specimens for transport.
• Stores specimen samples according to required temperature.
• Places samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes.
• Accurately labels specimens and follows specific procedures and protocols necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
• Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attends annual department trainings.
• Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed, as required in some states.
• Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 5-7 years of experience.
