Job summary

Formlabs in Somerville, MA invites you to join our Manufacturing Engineering Internship for Summer 2027. You will support end-to-end test and calibration equipment development, manage manufacturing builds with internal and overseas vendors, and help develop new methods and work instructions for our next generation products.

Candidates should have CAD proficiency (Onshape, SolidWorks, Fusion), hands-on hardware experience, and strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Proficient in CAD and 2D drawing creation.
• Skilled at debugging and root-causing electromechanical issues.
• Hands-on, self-motivated hardware work attitude.
• Organized, meticulous and detail-oriented.
• Strong communication and self-starting capabilities.
• Experience with SQL, Tableau, JMP, Minitab for data analysis.
• Experience with Python.

Responsibilities

• Support end-to-end test and calibration equipment development including fixture design, fabrication, qualification, inventory/asset management, and preventive maintenance plans.
• Project manage manufacturing builds, both in-house and at overseas vendors, and own technical troubleshooting of manufacturing line issues.
• Co-develop methods, processes, procedures, and work instructions to support building our next generation products.

The Job

• Support end-to-end test and calibration equipment development including fixture design, fabrication, qualification, inventory / asset management, and preventive maintenance plans.
• Project manage manufacturing builds, both in-house and at overseas vendors, and own technical troubleshooting of manufacturing line issues
• Co-develop methods, processes, procedures, and work instructions to support building our next generation products.

You

• Have working proficiency with CAD (e.g. Onshape, Solidworks, Fusion etc.) and 2D drawing creation
• Skilled at debugging, testing, and identifying the root causes of electromechanical problems
• Hands-on, self-motivated, and love to work on hardware
• Organized, meticulous, and detail-oriented
• Independent, self-starter with strong communication skills
• Experience with statistical analysis and data visualization tools (SQL, Tableau, JMP, Minitab, etc)
• Experience with Python

Nice to Have

• Have a desire to understand system level interactions of complex electro-mechanical products.
• Understanding of GD&T principles to define and evaluate part quality

Compensation

Interns at Formlabs are paid on a bi-weekly pay schedule. The pay range for this role is between $2,900 and $3,300 per bi-weekly pay period, and your pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location and expected impact on the organization. This is a salaried role, so you will always be paid based on the assumed 40 hours per week as a full-time intern. This position does not offer housing or relocation assistance.
