Job summary

UPMC East is currently hiring a casual Pharmacy Technician to join our team. This role involves working various daylight and evening shifts with rotating weekend/holiday responsibility.

The Pharmacy Technician provides pharmaceutical care within the UPMC Health System by assisting with sterile and nonsterile medication preparation, filling, and distribution, in compliance with health and safety regulations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One of: completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program; six months of pharmacy technician experience; six months as a Pharmacy Assistant within the UPMC Health System; enrollment in an undergraduate pharmacy program.

Responsibilities

• Assist in filling medication orders through correct labeling, counting and stocking practices.
• Prepare proper oral and injectable medications (including IV admixtures) for administration at the appropriate time.
• Maintain and update automated med stations, unit and department stock, emergency boxes, and crash carts.
• Provide and receive information to hospital personnel, patients and visitors; refer drug information questions to Staff Pharmacists.
• Ensure medications are stored securely and in compliance with regulations.
