Job summary

UPMC Memorial is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician, Intermediate, to join the Memorial Pharmacy Team. The role involves sterile and nonsterile medication preparation, labeling, packaging, and distribution in a fast-paced hospital setting with rotating day/evening schedules.

The technician will ensure compliance with DoH, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations, assisting in all aspects of pharmaceutical care and patient information management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required or completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program with two years of pharmacy technician experience.

Responsibilities

• Fill medication orders with correct labeling, counting, and stocking; initial and date products as required.
• Prepare proper oral and injectable medications, including IV admixtures and TPN, for the correct patient.
• Use proper technique in medication preparation.
• Work in sterile product areas handling cytotoxic and hazardous drugs with aseptic technique.
• Distribute medications via cassettes, carts, and delivery of controlled substances per policy and regulations.
• Retrieve discontinued medications and return or credit them as needed.
• Maintain positive relationships during medication distribution and support investigational drug handling.
• Provide information to hospital staff, patients, and visitors; refer drug questions to Staff Pharmacists.
