Job summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA, is seeking an IV Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician. The role includes rotating 10-hour shifts (4 days/week), 6am–11pm, with every-other-weekend and a $5,000 sign-on bonus for qualified candidates.

A State license is required and hospital experience in IV/sterile compounding is essential. Responsibilities cover advanced technical duties, independent workflow in specialty areas, and training of new staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Virginia Pharmacy Tech License required.
• CPhT license required (NHA or PTCB).
• 5 years pharmacy experience required.
• 2 years IV or sterile compounding experience required.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership of the work area.
• Fills and delivers medications under supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner as required by specialty position.
• Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care.
• Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately.
• Training in an advanced Specialist Pharmacy Technician job functions.
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk VA

Status:

Full Time (40 hrs/wk)

Shift:

Rotating - 10 Hr Shift (4 days per week)

The Specialty Pharmacy Tech performs the technician responsibilities in specialized areas of pharmacy practice under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner.

• Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership of the work area
• Demonstrates the ability to competently work independently in defined specialized areas of pharmacy practice
• Training in an advanced Specialist Pharmacy Technician job functions
• Assumes local and/or system responsibility for assigned tasks related to advanced specialist job positions
• Participates in the training of new employees
• Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner as required by specialty position
• Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care
• Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice as needed
• Uses appropriate systems for processing patient information
• Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements
• Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately
• Training in an advanced Specialist Pharmacy Technician job functions
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
• A pharmacy technician license is required in the state of practice.
