Sentara Health is seeking an IV Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician at Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA. The role features a 40-hour work week with rotating 10-hour shifts (4 days), 6am–11pm, and every-other weekend. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is offered for qualified candidates.

Required are Virginia Pharmacy Tech License and CPhT (NHA/PTCB) with 5 years of pharmacy experience and 2 years IV/sterile compounding experience. High school diploma and Epics software familiarity preferred.

• Virginia Pharmacy Tech License required; CPhT license (NHA/PTCB) required.
• 5 years pharmacy experience and 2 years IV/sterile compounding experience required.

Responsibilities

• Fills and delivers medications under supervision of a licensed pharmacist or practitioner.
• Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership of the work area.
• Trains new employees and assists in training for advanced specialist functions.
• Ensures adequate supplies for continuous patient care and proper QA.
• Operates pharmacy equipment according to policy and law.
• Triages and escalates questions outside the technician scope as needed.

The Specialty Pharmacy Tech performs the technician responsibilities in specialized areas of pharmacy practice under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner.

• Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership of the work area
• Demonstrates the ability to competently work independently in defined specialized areas of pharmacy practice
• Training in an advanced Specialist Pharmacy Technician job functions
• Assumes local and/or system responsibility for assigned tasks related to advanced specialist job positions
• Participates in the training of new employees
• Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner as required by specialty position
• Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care
• Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice as needed
• Uses appropriate systems for processing patient information
• Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements
• Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately
• Training in an advanced Specialist Pharmacy Technician job functions
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
• A pharmacy technician license is required in the state of practice.
