Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Pharmacy Technician Specialist, you will perform advanced and basic pharmacy technician duties accurately and promptly under the supervision of a pharmacist, following professional standards. Skills in sterile compounding and hazardous drug preparation (chemo certification) are desirable. You will also handle duties related to Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs), specialized tasks, and leadership roles assigned by pharmacy management.

What you will do in this role:

• Act as ADC Super User/Trainer, educate new users, and serve as a resource for pharmacy and nursing staff. Perform daily ADC routines, manage inventory, and communicate with users about errors and re-education.
• Assist with CII safe expiration audits, report reviews, discrepancy investigations, and incident reporting. Review audit reports and generate investigation reports for management.
• Work with inventory and IV teams to reduce expirations and waste, analyze data, and manage narcotic ordering and inventory.
• Provide training and supervision of technicians, ensure policy and regulatory compliance, and handle scheduling and administrative tasks.
• Identify critical issues, prioritize workload, communicate effectively, and ensure quality control and performance improvement.
• Perform duties of basic technicians, including medication filling, safe compounding, and labeling, adhering to policies and regulations.

Qualifications required:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a 40-hour sterile compounding course approved by an ACPE provider, meeting Texas Board of Pharmacy requirements.
• Minimum 2 years hospital experience.
• Preferred: 1+ year sterile compounding experience, supervisor experience.
• Current Registered Pharmacy Technician or Intern Certification by Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
