Job summary

Corewell Health Lakeland Retail Pharmacy in St. Joseph is seeking a part-time Pharmacy Technician. Under the direction of a Pharmacist, you will process prescriptions, prepare medications, and deliver supplies to nursing stations.

You will handle inventory, maintain compliance with HIPAA, and support a patient‑centered discharge medication program in an outpatient environment. Ideal candidates possess a valid Pharmacy Technician license and national certification (PTCB/ExCPT) and retail

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred Associate’s Degree.
• Hospital experience preferred.
• Licensure/certification as Pharmacy Technician per MI state rules.

Responsibilities

• Assist Pharmacist with prescription processing and packing.
• Deliver medications and supplies to patient care areas.
• Triages calls from multidisciplinary team and manages workflow.
• Maintain inventory and handle controlled substances under supervision.
• Ensure HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.
• Prepare sterile and nonsterile formulations as directed.

About Corewell Health Lakeland Retail Pharmacy

Corewell Health Retail Pharmacy at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph is an open-door outpatient pharmacy located at St. Joseph Hospital. While this pharmacy provides traditional outpatient pharmacy services for the community, its main purpose is to operate a Discharge Medication Program to collaboratively work across professional disciplines to ensure patients discharging from the hospital leave with their new medications in hand. This is a excellent transition of care opportunity in the outpatient pharmacy setting.

Scope of Work

Under the direction of a Pharmacist, provides technical assistance, processing and preparing medications and supplies. Works with multiple medication automation systems. Delivers medications and supplies to patient care areas. Triages phone calls and messages from multidisciplinary team members. Able to work in complex pharmacy areas (satellites, sterile product compounding, controlled substance handling, inventory management).

• Perform accurate and efficient prescription order entry in outpatient pharmacy management software, prepare prescriptions in a timely and accurate manner including nonsterile compounds, and appropriately prioritize prescription workflow under the direction of a Pharmacist.
• Perform accurate dispensing and cash register operations; Follows HIPAA laws and maintains patient confidentiality; Perform prescription delivery accurately and promptly as needed.
• Maintain and manage prescription drug inventory and handles controlled substances under direct supervision of a pharmacist per federal and state law.
• Perform excellent patient care and customer service through effective communication and responsiveness to concerns or requests of patients, physicians, nurses, employees, and the public; communicates positively and effectively with patients, colleagues and clinical staff in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Maintains a clean and organized work area.
• Maintains all requirements for CPhT certifications.
• Completes all Corewell Health assigned competencies by assigned due dates.
• Prepares supplies / medication, including complex sterile formulations under the direction of a Pharmacist. May prepare hazardous or biologic products when properly trained and competencies are passed.
• Prepares and packages bulk medications into unit of use packaging.
• Handles controlled substances for pharmacy and patient care areas under direct supervision of a pharmacist per federal and state law.
• Delivers pharmacy prepared medications, controlled substances and supplies to various nursing stations/patient care areas.
• Maintains a clean and organized work area.
• Maintains all requirements for CPhT certifications. Completes all Spectrum Health assigned competencies by assigned due dates.

• Required High School Diploma or equivalent
• Preferred Associate’s Degree
• Hospital experience Preferred
• LIC-Pharmacist Intern - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required Or
• LIC-Pharmacy Technician Temp - STATE_MI State of Michigan Must obtain full licensure w/in 90 days of hire. Upon Hire required
• LIC-Pharmacy Technician - STATE_MI State of Michigan 90 Days required
• CRT-Pharmacy Technician, Certified (CPHT) - PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Excludes - LIC- Pharmacist Intern 90 Days required Or
• CRT-Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) - NHA National Healthcareer Association Excludes - LIC- Pharmacist Intern 90 Days required

Ideal candidate will possess Full Pharmacy Technician License and National Cert., such as PTCB Certification, or ExCPT

Ideal candidate will also possess Retail Pharmacy Technician experience

Shifts are Monday to Friday, Day Shift, between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., 8.5-Hr. Shifts
