Apprenticeship Program

The pharmacy technician positions have evolved from a transaction-based environment to a patient‑centric one. As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice you’ll be front and center – interacting with customers and developing strong patient relationships.

Walgreens offers an “earn while you learn” Pharmacy Technician Training Program recognized by ASHP and the Department of Labor. This apprenticeship program guides you toward becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certified technician while maintaining the high skill required in the industry.

Responsibilities

Customer Experience

• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive experience.
• Share customer‑service best practices with team members.
• Develop strong relationships with valuable customers.

Operations

• Assist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision, following state, federal, and company policy.
• Use pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, fill prescriptions, and verify accuracy.
• Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist and adhere to company policies.
• Handle cash, process sales, and support inventory management activities.
• Assist with clinical services and coordinate with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
• Maintain a clean, orderly pharmacy department and comply with all company policies.

Training & Personal Development

• Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program.
• Attend training requested by the manager and acquire continuing education credits.
• Maintain knowledge of healthcare and pharmacy developments.

Basic Qualifications

• Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Good math skills for accurate prescription filling.
• Good computer skills.
• Knowledge of store inventory control.
• PTCB certification.
