Pharmacy Technician / Pharm Tech Apprenticeship
Base pay range: $16.50/hr - $20.00/hr

Responsibilities
- In accordance with state and federal regulations, assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy. Assist the pharmacist in the performance of other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
- Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, assist with and coach technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of the pharmacy cash registers.
- Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
Customer Experience
- Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
- Model and share customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied).
- Develop strong relationships with valued customers.
Operations
- Under the supervision of the pharmacist, assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policy. Review and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
- Perform duties as assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist and Store Manager including utilizing pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring accuracy, filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine, and checking for possible interactions. Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
- Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to Company policies and procedures related to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
- Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
- Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required. Assist customers in locating products and provide guidance to OTC aisles when possible.
- Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
- Process (correct and resubmit) manual claims for third-party prescription services in a timely and efficient manner, and perform other clerical duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
- Assist and support Pharmacy Department on inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking and storing shipments. Maintain knowledge of asset protection techniques and file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors or damaged goods involving Rx drugs.
- May assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services including the collection and proper labeling of samples and other clinical services as required; assist pharmacy staff in coordinating clinical services, Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
- Assist Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining good relationships with the local medical community by medical provider detailing and outreach to health groups, retirement homes, nursing homes, and other forums for growth opportunities.
- Assist with exterior and interior maintenance by keeping the Pharmacy Department stocked with supplies and ensuring a clean, neat, and orderly environment.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures; maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
- Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Training & Personal Development
- Earns and maintains PTCB certification through the designated PTCB training program and/or state-required certification/registration. Otherwise, earns PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
- Attend training requested by Manager and acquire continuing education credits. Maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest news and developments.
Basic Qualifications
- Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English. (Except in Puerto Rico)
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
- Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
- Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription filling, including counting, measuring and weighing medications.
- Prefer good computer skills.
- Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
- Prefer PTCB certification.
