Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy and pharmacy department duties in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, process prescriptions, and maintain accurate records.
• Assist and coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers on the operation of pharmacy systems and cash registers (if PTCB certified).
• Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience: greet customers and patients, offer assistance, resolve issues, answer questions, and share best practices.
• Support pharmacy operations: retrieve, count, pour, verify medications, check for interactions, schedule and maintain workflow, handle prescription errors, adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policy, register sales, handle cash, process manual claims, manage inventory, assist clinical services, and maintain cleanliness and order.

Customer Experience

• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive experience.
• Model and share customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy, etc.) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied, etc.).
• Develop strong relationships with high‑value customers.

Operations

• Assist in the practice of pharmacy under the supervision of the pharmacist, complying with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
• Perform duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist and Store Manager: enter patient and drug information, verify medication correctness, check for possible interactions, and assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
• Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies and the Quality Improvement Program.
• Adhere to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
• Register all related sales on assigned cash register, collect and handle cash as required, escort customers to OTC aisle when possible.
• Handle telephone calls that do not require the personal attention of the pharmacist, including physician calls.
• Process manual claims for third‑party program prescription services in a timely and efficient manner, and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
• Assist the Pharmacy Department on inventory management: ordering, unpacking, checking and storing shipments of pharmaceuticals, maintaining knowledge of company asset protection techniques, filing claims for overages, shortages, order errors or damaged goods involving Rx drugs.
• Assist pharmacist in administering clinical services, including blood/urine sample collection and labeling, and coordination of clinical services.
• Assist Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining good relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other health‑care providers.
• Assist with exterior and interior maintenance by ensuring the Pharmacy Department is stocked with adequate supplies, clean, neat, and orderly.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Training & Personal Development

• Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state‑required certification/registration. Otherwise earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
• Attend training requested by Manager and acquire continuing education credits. Maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest news and developments.

Basic Qualifications

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English. (Except in Puerto Rico)
• Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription filling.
• Prefer good computer skills.
• Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
• Prefer PTCB certification.
