Job summary

Penn Medicine University City is hiring a Pharmacy Technician to support the University of Pennsylvania Health System Retail Services. Under pharmacist supervision, you will fill outpatient prescriptions, manage inventory, prepare medications for shipment or pickup, and assist patients in-person or by phone.

You will interpret prescriptions, perform calculations, enter data into the pharmacy system, and coordinate insurance billing. Strong attention to accuracy and customer service is essential.

Qualifications

• Pharmacy technician certification not specified (required).
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six months of pharmacy experience in retail/outpatient or payer environment.
• Infusion sterile compounding experience is preferred for Ambulatory Infusion.

Responsibilities

• Prepares medications for dispensing under the supervision of the pharmacist, demonstrating accuracy, precision, and consistency relating to selection, packaging, and labeling functions.
• Retrieves and interpret prescriptions
• perform pharmaceutical calculations, considering patient and drug characteristics
• enter prescriptions, patient health information and insurance information into the clinical pharmacy information system for pharmacist review.
• Communicates with insurance carriers to obtain payment for prescription claims.
• Runs cash register accurately and dispenses prescriptions to patients
• Triages phone calls and requests from customers for assistance.
• Delivers medications to assigned areas
• Assists in maintaining proper inventory and control of drugs and supplies purchased by the Pharmacy. Regularly rotate medication inventory and check for expired medications.
