Description

Summary: All pharmacy technicians work under the direction of Clinical Pharmacists to provide pharmacy services with compassion, excellence, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Must be 18 years or older.

Operational Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform ONLY non-judgmental technical duties under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Prepare drug orders per physician request according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Verify computerized patient medication records accurately.
  • Maintain accurate, complete patient drug records.
  • Compound non-sterile pharmaceuticals.
  • Provide services efficiently and in a timely fashion.
  • Issue controlled substances to patient care areas and maintain records as required by law and institutional policies.
  • Verify the daily activities of the department are complete and recorded.
  • Maintain competency required for current job title/position.
  • Maintain current technician license and ensure applicable CE records and licensure are kept in department files.
  • Attend staff meetings and complete all competency/skills assessment requirements.
  • Serve as technician in specialty areas such as the operating room or outside pharmacy work areas.
  • Provide ambulatory pharmaceutical care services such as anticoagulation clinics, transition of care, discharge medication reconciliation, etc.
  • Perform outpatient distributive functions related to entering prescriptions, selecting medications, and coordinating delivery or pickup.

Clinical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe, appropriate, cost-effective drug therapies.
  • Read, extract, and interpret patient medical records accurately.
  • Detect and report suspected adverse drug reactions promptly.
  • Coordinate pharmacist drug education to patients and families.
  • Participate in quality improvement and medication review activities, maintaining logs and records.
  • Provide services efficiently and in a timely manner.

Occupational Hazards

  • Potential exposure to hazardous substances and sharps.
  • Risk of musculoskeletal injuries if proper techniques are not used.
  • Potential exposure to biologic material during direct patient care activities.

Education/Skills

Job Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Pharmacy experience preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: Registered Pharmacy technician in the state of practice required; Certified pharmacy technician preferred.
