A leading medical group in Michigan is seeking a Pharmacy Technician for an entry-level position. The role involves compounding medications, filling orders, and assisting pharmacists. Candidates must possess a high school diploma and a Pharmacy Technician Licensure. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential for success in this fast-paced environment.
Summary
The Pharmacy Technician is an entry-level position. Following a training period, the Technician should be able to decipher and enter orders on the computer, compound IVs, charge and credit, fill orders, answer phones and doors, and stock the department.
Responsibilities
(20%*) Runs reports, pulls medications, and restocks Automated Dispensing Machines. Follows up on narcotic discrepancies, troubleshoots problems, and assists and trains nurses on dispensing issues.
(20%)* Compounds IV and piggyback medications using aseptic technique and universal precautions, following USP 797 guidelines.
(15%)* Run labels accurately and promptly using the computer.
(15%)* Fills, reconciles, and exchanges 24-hour UD medicine carts using McKesson robot and Cerner.
(15%)* Repackages non-unit dose medications correctly using PacMed and McKesson repackager.
(15%)* Replaces and fills floor stock, including EMS boxes, crash cart trays, open heart meds, Omnicell Anesthesia carts, and completes monthly floor stock in other hospital departments. Stocks UD area and IV room if needed.
PHARM TECH: Pharmacy Technician Licensure
Equivalent Experience: New hires and transfers before October 1, 2015, must possess a full or limited technician license through Michigan. From October 1, 2015, onward, all must hold a temporary, limited, or full license, with full licensure required within 365 days for those with a temporary license.
Education: High School Diploma or GED
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Compounds oral and topical solutions and ointments. Handles phone calls, tubes, and faxes.
Assists pharmacist as directed.
Can add barcodes to products, including compounded items and IVPBs, using MILT 3.0, and checks NDC numbers with PharmNet Inpatient Formulary Manager.
Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND SKILLS:
Completes annual Aseptic Technique exam within 90 days of hire and annually thereafter.
Requires computer proficiency, good math skills, organizational ability, teamwork, and capacity to work under pressure.
Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication at all levels.
Competency in Microsoft Windows and participation in ongoing training is expected.
Knowledge of Medical Terminology and experience in hospital or retail pharmacy are preferred.
Exposure to stressful situations, including trauma, grief, and death.
Ability to wear PPE, including latex or substitutes.
Ability to move freely within the facility, perform job functions, and maintain vision and hearing with or without aids.
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and postural changes; exposure to bloodborne pathogens following safety protocols.
Must handle multiple tasks, work independently, and maintain regular attendance. Physical demands include handling, reaching, grasping, and feeling, often repeatedly.
Physical Demand Level: Light. Occasionally lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently handle 10 lbs., and operate controls.
