Job description

Job Purpose and Summary

At CVS Health, we are focused on transforming health care for our customers and making our company a great place to work. We help people navigate the health care system—improving access, lowering costs, and being a trusted partner for every meaningful moment of health. Within our Retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on our brand promise.

As a Technician, you will support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence within your store. You will be the first point of contact for patients and customers, ensuring prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately while providing caring service that exceeds expectations. You will apply Company SOPs, best practices, and communicate effectively throughout your shifts. After completing company training and meeting all licensing and certification requirements, you will perform duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Live our purpose by following all company SOPs at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health
  • Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (e.g., production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, and drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care—creating heartfelt moments at pick‑up, drive‑thru, and over the phone; offering immunizations and other services; solving or escalating patient problems
  • Complete basic inventory activities (e.g., putting away medication deliveries, cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, waiting bin inventories) as permitted by law and directed by pharmacy leadership
  • Contribute to a high‑performing team, embrace a growth mindset, and seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, and be willing to travel to stores as needed
  • Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles. Comply with CVS policies, controlled‑substance dispensing, record‑keeping, and patient privacy and security
  • Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, and voluntary staffing of off‑site clinics) where allowed by law and supported by training and certification
Immunization Responsibilities
  • Complete additional licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status for preparing and administering vaccines
  • Educate patients about the importance of vaccines and refer vaccination questions to the Pharmacist‑on‑duty
  • Monitor and respond to adverse reactions; report adverse events per public‑health requirements
  • Review, collect, and document patient information for each applicable patient
  • Monitor and manage vaccine supplies
Required Qualifications
  • Comply with state board of pharmacy requirements—including minimum age, education, and licensure/certification
  • State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state
Essential Functions
  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends
  • Ability to complete required training within designated timeframe
  • Attention and focus: concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly, confirm prescription accuracy
  • Customer service and team orientation: assist people friendly, read and respond to patients’ reactions
  • Communication skills: use and understand verbal and written communication; active listening; ask questions; avoid interrupting
  • Mathematical reasoning: solve problems such as calculating tablet counts and bottle requirements
  • Problem resolution: identify challenging interactions and choose best solutions
  • Physical demands: mobility, lifting up to 20 lbs, repetitive finger movements, precise machine adjustments, visual acuity, speaking clearly, reading instructions, all as required
  • Perform any additional tasks directed by Supervisor or Manager
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1–3 years previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting
  • Ability to work in the home store and across the market in other locations as needed
