Within our Retail locations, our Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on our brand promise.
As a Technician, you will support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence within your store. Technicians are often the first point of contact to assist patients and customers, ensuring prescriptions are filled promptly, safely and accurately while providing caring service that exceeds patient expectations. Technicians operate as part of the pharmacy team through consistent application of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices and effective communication, demonstrating genuine care and contributing to a safe and inclusive culture.
Responsibilities
- Follow all company SOPs at each workstation, helping Pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, and drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care, creating heartfelt moments while serving patients at pick‑up, drive‑thru and over the phone; provide immunizations and other services at the register and over the phone; resolve or escalate patient problems.
- Complete basic inventory activities, as permitted by law, including accurately putting away medication deliveries, completing cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, waiting bin inventories, etc.
- Contribute to a high‑performing team, embrace a growth mindset, seek feedback and expand clinical and technical knowledge to better assist patients.
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, and travel to stores in the market as needed.
- Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, local laws, regulations, professional standards and ethical principles; comply with CVS policies to ensure patient safety, controlled substance dispensing and recordkeeping, and protect privacy and security.
- Deliver additional patient health care services (immunizations, point‑of‑care testing and voluntary staffing of off‑site clinics) where allowable by law and supported by required training and certification.
Immunization Responsibilities
- Complete additional licensure and training requirements, in compliance with state Board of Pharmacy regulations, to obtain Technician Immunizer status.
- Educate patients about the importance of vaccines and refer vaccination questions to the Pharmacist‑on‑duty.
- Monitor for and respond to adverse reactions; report adverse reaction events per public health requirements.
- Review and collect patient information and document for each applicable patient.
- Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
- Compliance with state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy, including age, education, and licensure/certification.
- State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.
Essential Functions
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe.
- Attention and focus: concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly, and confirm prescription information and label accuracy.
- Customer service and team orientation: help people in a friendly manner, notice and respond to patient reactions.
- Communication skills: use and understand verbal and written communication; employ active listening.
- Mathematical reasoning: use math to calculate dosage, supply, and appropriate counts.
- Problem resolution: identify challenging interactions and choose best action.
- Physical demands: mobile, upright for extended periods, lift, scan, bag, reach, move fingers, maintain precision, lift up to 20 lbs, perform physical tasks, and communicate verbally.
- Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1‑3 years previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
- Ability to work in the home store and across the market in other locations to meet business needs.
Job Details
Anticipated weekly hours: 20.
Time type: Part time.
Pay range: $19.00 – $29.00 per hour (base hourly rate or base annual full‑time salary).
