Job Purpose and Summary

At CVS Health, we are focused on transforming health care for our customers and making our company a great place to work. The Pharmacy Technician (Technician) plays a critical role in supporting our pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on our brand promise.

As a Technician, you will support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence within your store. Technicians are often the first point of contact to assist our patients and customers to deliver an exceptional experience. They help ensure that pharmacy operations run smoothly, prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately, and we provide caring service that exceeds patient expectations.

After completing company training and meeting all registration, licensing, and certification requirements, Technicians operate as part of the pharmacy team through consistent application of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication.

Key Responsibilities
  • Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
  • Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each pharmacy workstation (i.e., production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, and drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care, offering immunizations and other services, and demonstrating compassionate care by solving or escalating patient problems.
  • Complete basic inventory activities such as accurately putting away medication deliveries, completing cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, waiting bin inventories, etc.
  • Contribute to a high‑performing team, embrace a growth mindset, seek feedback, and actively pursue opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, and volunteer traveling to stores in the market to work shifts as required.
  • Understand and comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; comply with CVS policies to ensure patient safety, controlled substance dispensing, record‑keeping, and privacy.
  • Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, and voluntarily staffing off‑site clinics) where lawful and supported by training.
Optional Immunizer Responsibilities
  • Complete additional licensure and training requirements to obtain Technician Immunizer status for vaccine preparation and administration.
  • Educate patients about vaccine importance and refer vaccine questions to the Pharmacist‑on‑duty.
  • Monitor for and respond to adverse reactions; report events per public health requirements.
  • Review and collect patient information, track, and document for each applicable patient.
  • Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
  • Comply with state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy, including age, education, and licensure/certification. If the state board does not mandate a minimum age, must be at least 16 years of age. If the state board does not mandate a minimum educational requirement, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school or a high‑school equivalency program.

Essential Functions
  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Complete required training within a designated timeframe.
  • Attention and focus: concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly, confirm prescription information and label accuracy.
  • Customer service and team orientation: help people pleasantly, respond to patient reactions appropriately.
  • Communication skills: use verbal and written communication, actively listen, ask questions, and avoid inappropriate interruptions.
  • Mathematical reasoning: solve problems using math, such as calculating tablets, day supplies, and bottle counts.
  • Problem resolution: identify challenging interactions and choose best actions among multiple options.
  • Physical demands: mobility, lifting, scanning, bagging, reaching overhead, moving fingers, maintaining precision, stooping, reading, lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Perform any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1–3 years previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
  • Work in the home store and across the market in other locations to meet business needs.

Pay Range: $17.92 – $27.92 per hour
