Job summary

Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, WV, seeks a Pharmacy Technician to assist the management of controlled substances and automation systems in the Cancer Center Pharmacy.

Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, you will help ensure DEA and WV Board requirements, perform drug audits, process physician orders, and maintain accurate medication profiles. This role supports pharmacists to improve patient care and outcomes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with 3 years related experience.
• Formalized training required; substitution: 1 year related hospital/military experience.
• Pharmacy Technician certifications required: national and state certs.

Responsibilities

• Use standard reporting processes for controlled substances and maintain legal documentation.
• Conduct regular drug diversion audits.
• Educate new employees on controlled substance and automated dispensing processes.
• Enter physician orders into the pharmacy information system and verify patient demographics.
• Prepare patient-specific medication orders under pharmacist supervision and package sterile products.
• Stock floor stock and manage controlled substance processes under pharmacist supervision.
• Handle pharmacy calls and route more complex ones to a pharmacist as needed.
• Perform basic medication purchasing and inventory control tasks.

Education

ASHP Technician Program or hospital/military training
