Job summary

The Blue Shield of California Pharmacy team is composed of 350+ professionals focused on safe, equitable access to affordable benefits. The Director, Pharmacist - Strategy and Performance will guide enterprise strategy across pharmacy benefits, manage contracting and performance, and partner with senior leaders to optimize drug trend management and member value.

The role emphasizes leadership development, complex problem solving, and high-impact results.

Qualifications

• Requires an active and unrestricted California RPh license.
• Requires a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from a U.S. accredited school.
• Requires 10 years of prior relevant experience in a managed care health plan or PBM
• Requires 6 years of prior people management experience with direct reports
• Excellent communication skills with executive-level presentations
• Knowledge of pharmacy benefits, formulary and network programs
• Vendor partnerships, contract operations and performance management preferred
• Strong business acumen with pharmacy strategy development and planning
• Excellent presentation, verbal and written skills for diverse audiences
• Detail-oriented with ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

• Lead a team to develop and execute enterprise pharmacy strategy across pharmacy and medical benefits.
• Oversee drug and network contracting, contract performance, and financial performance.
• Collaborate with Pharmacy Clinical Leadership, Medical Management, Finance, Actuary, Provider Contracting and PBM partners.
• Identify and implement strategies to improve drug trend management and maximize value for members and clients.
• Develop leaders and foster continuous learning within the organization.
