Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown is seeking an Pharmacist Technician I to assist in drug distribution under pharmacist supervision. You will prepare unit-dose meds, deliver medications, and handle ordering and stocking of drug supplies in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Requirements include a high school diploma and active licensure as Pharmacy Technician in WV or applicable states; six months of experience; preferred associates degree or tech program graduate.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of pharmacy technician experience.
• High school diploma or Equivalent.
• Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided: MD: Pharmacy Technician License or Technician Student Permit; OH: Technician License or Trainee License; PA: Technician License or Trainee License; WV: Technician License or Trainee License.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for preparing unit-dose medications, delivering medications, and ordering and delivering drug supplies.
• Reads physician orders/prescriptions and prepares medication for dispensing, including pediatric and geriatric dosage forms.
• Understands standard pharmaceutical terms, abbreviations and symbols used in prescribing/dispensing medications.
• Communicates with Patients or care givers to determine medication needs and delivery, pick up, or shipment.
• Accurately prepares and/or delivers controlled substances and maintains all necessary records.
• Takes inventory and analyzes medication supplies, replaces outdated or deteriorated meds; replaces depleted inventory.
• Prepares non-parenteral medications, including oral solutions/suspensions for pediatric patients.
• Labels parenteral/Prescription products appropriately.
• Performs arithmetic calculations for dosage determinations.
• Prepares and labels prepackaged medications and maintains related records.
• Maintains inventory and supplies in assigned pharmacy areas.
• Answers telephone and channels calls appropriately.
• Keeps pharmacy service areas and drug storage areas clean and orderly.
• Some duties restricted to Pharmacists per state/federal regulations.
