Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking an Operations Pharmacy Technician I to assist in drug distribution under pharmacist supervision. The role involves preparing unit-dose medications, dispensing, inventory management, and communicating with patients or caregivers to coordinate delivery or pickup.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and licensure as required by the state boards where services are provided. Six months of technician experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Prepare unit-dose medications, deliver medications, and order/deliver drug supplies.
• Read physician orders/prescriptions and prepare medications for dispensing, including pediatric/geriatric forms.
• Understand standard pharmaceutical terms, abbreviations, and symbols used in prescribing/dispensing.
• Communicate with patients or caregivers to determine medication needs and delivery/pickup arrangements.
• Accurately prepare and deliver controlled substances and maintain records.
• Take inventory and replace outdated medications; replenish supplies.
• Prepare non-parenteral medications (oral solutions/suspensions) for pediatric patients.
• Label parenteral/Prescription products correctly.
• Perform dosage calculations for medication preparations.
• Adhere to departmental standards for speed and accuracy.
• Prepare and label prepackaged medications and maintain related records.
• Maintain inventory and supplies in pharmacy areas.
• Answer phones and route calls to the appropriate person.
• Keep pharmacy and storage areas clean and orderly.
• Some duties reserved for Pharmacists per state/federal regulations.
