Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown is seeking a Pharmacy Technician I to assist in drug distribution and preparation under pharmacist supervision. Responsibilities include unit-dose preparation, medication delivery, and adherence to state board regulations.

Requires high school diploma and current licensure per state requirements; six months of experience preferred. Shift is Day, 40 hours weekly, on-site in Morgantown WV.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided.
• WV: Pharmacy Technician License or Trainee License through West Virginia Board of Pharmacy.
• OH: Certified or Registered Pharmacy Technician License or Trainee License through Ohio Board of Pharmacy.
• MD: Pharmacy Technician License or Pharmacy Technician Student Permit through Maryland Board of Pharmacy.
• PA: Pharmacy Technician License or Pharmacy Technician Trainee License through Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy.

Responsibilities

• Prepare unit-dose medications and deliver medications.
• Read physician orders/prescriptions and prepare medications for dispensing.
• Understand standard pharmaceutical terms and Abbreviations used in prescribing/dispensing.
• Communicate with patients or caregivers to determine medication and delivery needs.
• Prepare and deliver controlled substances and maintain records.
• Take inventory and replace outdated medications.
• Prepare non-parenteral medications, including oral solutions for pediatric patients.
• Label parenteral/Prescription products appropriately.
• Perform dosage calculations for medications.
• Adhere to departmental standards for speed and accuracy.
• Prepare and label prepackaged medications and maintain related records.
• Maintain inventory in assigned pharmacy areas.
• Answer telephone and direct calls appropriately.
• Keep pharmacy areas and storage clean and orderly.
• Some duties restricted to Pharmacists per state/federal regulations.
